Divine Dark Chocolate, 100g

Best Before End: 07/2010 Batch Code: L129045
Best Before End: 04/2011 Batch Code: L329411

Divine Chocolate Ltd withdraws two batch codes of Divine Dark Chocolate due to cross-contamination with milk.

Two batch codes of the above product have been found to contain milk protein, which is not an intended ingredient. This makes the product a potential health risk for people who are allergic to or intolerant of milk or milk constituents.

The company has contacted retailers to withdraw any remaining product of the affected batch codes from sale. Point of Sale notices will be displayed in stores to alert consumers to the reasons for the withdrawal, and the actions they can take if they have purchased the product

    GREEN AND BLACKS CHOCOLATE

The situation with Green and Black`s is still confusing. Their dark chocolate does not have any added milk ingredients, but they decided to err on the side of caution and so, as their dark chocolate is made on the same premises as milk chocolate, to add milk onto their list of ingredients due to the cross contamination possibility. This means that it looks as if the recipe has changed, but it has not. Milk is not actually added, it just might be present due to cross contamination. We have discussed it with them and explained how confusing it is for people. There was information sent on this in November, copied below. They are looking for a new plant but until then the situation will remain.

    GREEN and BLACK`s CHOCOLATE
All Green and Black dark chocolate continues to be made with the same ingredients, and has no milk added. However they have been changing their labelling over the last months and many packs now list "milk" as an ingredient. In fact this is to protect people who may be severely allergic, as they do not add milk, but there is a risk of cross contamination. Their dark chocolate is made on the same plant as milk chocolate and so traces of milk may be present. For further information see website www.greenandblacks.com in the news section. They are currently reviewing their labelling and may soon change to a "risk of trace contamination" labelling until they manufacture in a dedicated milk free plant.

Cheese Update November 2007- PDO seal
The PDO (Protected Designation of Organ) scheme is run by the EU in order to protect traditional foodstuffs. In the summer this year the EU changed the colour of the PDO logo from blue and yellow to red and yellow. This was so that it would be more easily distinguishable from the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) logo which is staying blue and yellow.

This colour change is being phased in over a 2 year period but eventually all West Country Farmhouse Mature Cheddar Cheese will feature a red and yellow logo. The logo is the same- it is just the colour that has changed. Cheese is just beginning to appear in the shops with the new seal on, but it will be 2 years before the change is on every pack.

Nothing else has changed with the seal- just look for the new colour.

Click here to view a larger picture of the new logo.
